Out of Province Patients Visiting Manitoba
The number of visiting patients accepted for dialysis and the duration of their treatment in Manitoba is limited and may be restricted or unavailable depending on capacity available within the 21 dialysis centres in the province.
We recommend planning a minimum of three weeks in advance and require that the home dialysis unit forward all of the necessary medical information to our Transition Coordinator as soon as possible. Upon receipt of the information, the Transition Coordinator will review the information and the Nephrologist will determine acceptance for Hemodialysis in Manitoba.
Please be advised that acceptance is subject to cancellation of the dialysis treatment with one week’s notice. Please contact our office approximately three days prior to departure to confirm the time and place of the dialysis treatment. Manitoba dialysis units currently have patients with Antibiotic Resistant Organisms (ARO) who are on isolation. To prevent patients from accidentally bringing resistant bacteria into Manitoba, we require that your dialysis unit perform bacterial cultures one week prior to treatment here.
We hope you understand this practice is to protect all patients. If requiring medications, including EPO (Erythropoietin), patients are required to bring these medications with them. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our office for further information.
