EKHR Training Information

Orientation and training for the eKHR application is recommended for Unit Clerks and Clinical Resource Nurses/Charge Nurses who are required to work in the system. Allied Health and other health professionals may choose to attend an orientation session providing “view and print only” access in eKHR.

Unit Clerks: Within their scope of practice, unit clerks enter critical information into the eKHR including patient demographics, dialysis status and patient location, lab results pertaining to infections status (for Cognos board) and medication orders. Patients are entered into the eKHR schedule so that treatment stations display on the Cognos boards located in the hemodialysis units. Unit clerks receive training over two days:

  • Day 1: Demographics and Medications – a comprehensive orientation to entering a patient’s demographics, dialysis status, infectious status, medications and printing medication reports. Day 1 is required before attending Day 2.
  • Day 2: Scheduling and Transfers – orientation to scheduling including the permanent and actual schedules and transferring of patients between sites.

Clinical Resource Nurses/Charge Nurses: CRNs/CNs require an understanding of navigation through all modules of the eKHR to access information about patients. As primary support for patient transfers, a clear understanding of the scheduling module and Cognos boards is needed. CRNs/CNs receive an orientation over one day:

  • CRN and CN Orientation – provides an overview of all eKHR modules and specific training for scheduling.

Allied Health/Other Health Professionals: view and print only access is provided to Allied Health Professionals for the purpose of finding patient-specific information and to print reports.

  • View Only – this 2-hour orientation to eKHR demonstrates navigation through the modules to view information required. Printing reports is also reviewed.

Update: eKHR Trainings are facilitated by the Provincial Renal Educators. If you have any questions regarding eKHR education or to book training dates, please email the Renal Educators at mrp.ed@sharedhealthmb.ca.  Training dates are subject to change as we are currently working through an increase in training requests. We thank you for your patience.

Registration Guidelines:

Manager identifies staff member requiring eKHR access and training.

Manager submits a completed Account & Access Request Form to servicedesk@sharedhealth.mb.ca
The form is available here at Account Management – Shared Health Intranet
Note staff members require network access before eKHR access can be granted.

Service Desk creates an incident number for tracking the request. The request is forwarded to the eKHR Application Administrator. The Staff Member’s eKHR access is created.

The Application Administrator forwards the information to the eKHR Educator.
An email with an initial password, quick reference guide to log-in and log-out, and changing the password is sent to the Staff Member.

It is expected the staff member will log into the application and change their password prior to the training dates(s).

The eKHR educator notifies the manager of the next available training dates.
The manager registers the staff member into the appropriate class.

PLEASE NOTE: All training occurs at Seven Oaks General Hospital in room 2SS19. There is a maximum of 4 trainees per session.
Select the appropriate training days for the staff category.
