Denise Cromarty, Hemodialysis Nurse, Norway House Hospital, Norway House, MB
Denise has been nursing since 2006 and started working in dialysis in 2008.
A highlight of the job? “The caring aspect especially when it’s at home and you know the community members and you can care for them. You get to know your patients. The ability to work in my home community is a bonus.
Denise says that what is a bonus can also be a challenge:
“You have a lot of family up there. It’s hard to turn off the emotional side of it. You try your best to separate personal and professional aspects. We have a palliative room there now, so you know you might have to take care of family members. It can be hard.”
Challenges as a rural nurse: “No access to specialized services that we don’t have up north like ultrasound or CT scan.”
