JUDY KINCH, RN
Renal Health Clinic, Health Sciences Centre

Judy was nominated as part of the HSC Renal Health Clinic team. Read the nomination here.

Judy’s reasons for getting into nursing still seem to guide her today. After seeing a family member go through the medical system, she decided to make nursing a career.
“Seeing how they had gone through that, I thought I could really help people.”

She spent 22 years as a hemodialysis nurse before moving over to the renal health clinic just two years ago. In this position she follows patients through their kidney disease journey and aims to relieve some of the stress they may be feeling.

“The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the patients and talking to them – trying to make things a little bit easier for them.”

She says it can be hard to follow a patient and then let go of them as they move onto dialysis.
“If you have been following them for years – if they progress on to dialysis all of a sudden you are not part of their life anymore.”

She says the clinic team is a great support and she continues to have passion for her career pick.

“I love it. I don’t ever regret it.”
