St. Boniface Hospital provides kidney health care to individuals with all stages of kidney disease and works in partnership with Kidney Health Manitoba.
St. Boniface Hospital has been offering dialysis services since 1967 and was the first hospital in Manitoba to offer peritoneal dialysis.

The St. Boniface Hospital Kidney Health Clinic joins newly diagnosed and/or progressing patients with an interdisciplinary team of health-care providers to treat reversible problems and begin therapies to prevent, delay and/or decrease the development of chronic renal failure thereby slowing the rate of progression to end stage renal disease. For patients who require renal replacement therapy, our team works with the individual to determine which type of dialysis is best suited to their medical needs and lifestyle.

St. Boniface Hospital is one of Canada’s largest Peritoneal Dialysis Programs. St. Boniface is one of two sites in Winnipeg where patients are prepared for and trained to perform peritoneal dialysis – a form of dialysis done at home either by the patient, a caregiver or home care. This form of dialysis uses the natural peritoneal membrane within the body as a filter to remove excess waste and fluid
The St. Boniface Hospital Kidney Health Program works collaboratively with the Cardiac Sciences Program to support cardiology patients. Our goal is to reduce heart failure risk factors, reduce heart failure symptoms, reduce hospitalizations and improve quality of life.

For patients needing dialysis due to declining kidney function, St. Boniface provides in-centre hemodialysis. Usually each patient receives three dialysis sessions a week. St. Boniface provides hemodialysis for 156 out-patients and also supports critically ill patients requiring care in the Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit or Cardiac Sciences Intensive Care Unit.
St. Boniface Hospital also offers Short Daily Hemodialysis which is a six day a week treatment regime. Short Daily Hemodialysis has shown positive outcomes for those patients who meet pre-determined criteria and agree to comply with six times a week dialysis.
Hemodialysis Unit 1
This unit is located on C4. Click here for a St. Boniface Hospital map. When entering through the Everett Atrium entrance off Tache, there is a hallway entrance next to the Tim Hortons coffee shop. Turn right down the hallway until you reach the “C” block elevator which you can then take to the 4th floor. From thre follow the signs to the Hemodialysis Unit.
Hemodialysis Unit 1 has 22 treatment stations and operates six days per week. The unit phone number is 204-237-2824
Satellite Hemodialysis Unit

Parking: If you are going to be receiving regular dialysis treatments at St. Boniface, you can request information on parking from your health-care team. For visitors, there are surface parking lots on the south and east sides of the building. There is also metered street parking around the hospital. Street parking nearest to the hospital is $2 per hour.
Handi Transit: Individuals using Handi-Transit are dropped off and picked up at the Everett Atrium entrance off Tache.
