  • Recent research shows potassium bound to fibre is not well absorbed, so eat more higher fibre foods.
  • Eat more whole fruits and vegetables and whole grains (even some bananas, oranges & whole tomatoes, whole wheat bread and oatmeal).
  • Include plant proteins like unsalted nuts, peanut butter, nut butters, tofu, canned chickpeas/kidney beans.
  • Limit low fibre foods with easier to absorb potassium like fruit/vegetable juices, tomato sauce/paste, milk & yogurt.
  • Avoid potassium additives in packaged food. Check the ingredient list on labels for the word potassium.
