Grains & bread.
  • Recent research shows phosphorus bound to fibre is not well absorbed, so eat more high fibre foods.
  • It is okay to eat whole grains (even whole wheat bread, brown rice and oatmeal).
  • Limit milk/yogurt to 1 cup per day.
  • Eat smaller portions of cheese.
  • Eat more fruit, vegetables and salads.
  • Avoid phosphate additives in packaged and frozen food.
  • Check the ingredient list on labels for the words “phosphate”, “phosphoric acid” or just “phos”.

Enriched wheat flour, water, sugars, soybean oil, hydrogenated and modified palm oil, baking powder (baking soda, sodium acid pyrophosphate, sodium aluminum phosphate, salt, vital wheat gluten, pectin).
